Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1992) — Marcus theory of electron transfer
Rudolph Marcus won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1992 for his theory explaining how electrons transfer between molecules — a fundamental process in chemistry that governs everything from photosynthesis to corrosion to battery technology. His Marcus theory is one of the most important theoretical contributions to chemistry in the 20th century. He continued working at Caltech until well past his 100th birthday.
