Raif Dizdarević

Raif Dizdarević was one of the last leaders of socialist Yugoslavia, serving as President of the Presidency of the federation from May 1988 to May 1989, when the country was already deep in economic crisis. A career diplomat, he held Cold War postings in the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia and served as Yugoslavia's foreign minister from 1984 to 1987. After leaving politics he wrote memoirs including From Tito's Death to Yugoslavia's Death, a first-hand account of the federation's collapse. He died in Sarajevo on September 2 at the age of 99.
