Milan Panić

Milan Panić left communist Yugoslavia for the United States in the 1950s and in 1959 founded ICN Pharmaceuticals in California. In July 1992 he returned to become prime minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, at a time when wars were raging in the former Yugoslavia and the country faced international sanctions. He soon broke with Serbian President Slobodan Milošević and challenged him in the December 1992 presidential election, campaigning for an end to the wars and to Serbia's international isolation. Born in Belgrade in 1929, he died in Pasadena, California, on September 24 at the age of 96.
