Kay Granger

Kay Granger made history in 1996 as the first Republican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas, serving Fort Worth for nearly three decades. She rose to become one of the most powerful members of Congress, chairing the House Appropriations Committee — placing her in control of the federal government's spending process. She was a former mayor of Fort Worth before entering national politics. She died at 83.
