Nobel Prize in Physics (2013) — Higgs boson theory
François Englert shared the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics with Peter Higgs for the theoretical discovery of the mechanism that gives mass to subatomic particles — confirmed by the detection of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012. A Holocaust survivor who was hidden by Belgian families during World War II, he went on to make one of the most important contributions to fundamental physics.
