Dolly Parton wrote and recorded some of the most enduring songs in American music, including "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors" and "I Will Always Love You", which became a global smash through Whitney Houston's 1992 cover. She made her film debut in 9 to 5 in 1980 and later turned a small theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, into Dollywood. She was one of only a handful of artists inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her publicist said she died peacefully at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville on August 25 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 80.
