NBA Hall of Famer and the league's first MVP
Bob Pettit starred at LSU before spending his entire 11-year NBA career with the Hawks in Milwaukee and St. Louis. He won the league's first MVP award in 1956, helped the St. Louis Hawks win the 1958 NBA championship and in 1964 became the first player to pass 20,000 career points. An 11-time All-Star and four-time All-Star Game MVP, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1970. His family said he died peacefully at his home in Metairie, Louisiana, on September 23. He was 93.
