Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi was an Iranian-French graphic novelist and filmmaker whose autobiographical comic Persepolis became one of the most acclaimed graphic novels ever published. The book — and its 2007 animated film adaptation — told the story of her childhood during the Iranian Revolution and her teenage years in exile in Vienna. It was a powerful, personal account that humanised Iran for Western audiences and became essential reading in schools worldwide.
