Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi was an Iranian-French graphic novelist and filmmaker whose autobiographical comic Persepolis became one of the most acclaimed graphic novels ever published. The book, and its 2007 animated film adaptation, told the story of her childhood during the Iranian Revolution and her teenage years in exile in Vienna. It was a powerful, personal account that humanised Iran for Western audiences and became essential reading in schools worldwide.
