Kavinsky was a French electronic musician whose track "Nightcall" became globally famous after it was featured in the opening sequence of the 2011 film Drive. The song's dark, pulsing synthwave sound helped define the entire retrowave genre and has been streamed over a billion times. Born Vincent Belorgey, he created a fictional backstory for his Kavinsky persona — a musician who died in a car crash in 1986 and returned as a zombie.
