Bonnie Tyler's husky, powerful voice produced two of the most iconic songs of the 1980s: "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero". Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, she lost her voice to nodules on her vocal cords in the 1970s — and the surgery gave her the distinctive raspy tone that made her famous. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" remains one of the best-selling singles of all time. She died at 75 from complications of intestinal surgery.
