Bonnie Tyler
Welsh · 75 years old · Died 8 July 2026
Singer: "Total Eclipse of the Heart", "Holding Out for a Hero"
Cause of death
Complications from intestinal surgery
Bonnie Tyler's husky, powerful voice produced two of the most iconic songs of the 1980s: "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero". Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, she lost her voice to nodules on her vocal cords in the 1970s, and the surgery gave her the distinctive raspy tone that made her famous. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" remains one of the best-selling singles of all time. She died at 75 from complications of intestinal surgery.
